About

In 1979 Kenny Rogers and Terry Williams set out to build the best studio in Los Angeles.  Lion Share was established by Rogers and Williams who were musicians at heart and instantly connected with the vibe of the facility which was previously known as ABC Dunhill studios.  Rogers and Williams believed in the principles of treating all people with respect and kindness, having a group of highly skilled engineers that felt like family, and operating at the cutting edge of music production and recording technology.  Shortly after opening its doors, Lion Share became established as one of LA’s go-to independently owned recording studios hosting and being a part of some of the greatest records ever made and some of the biggest moments in recording studio history including Michael Jackson - WE are the World and Smooth Criminal, Donna Summer - She Works Hard for the Money, Chicago - You’re the inspiration, and so many more! In 2023, Lion Share underwent a complete remodel and careful renovation with the consultation of the original designers in an effort to restore one of the world’s greatest recording studios to its past glory.   Lion Share is currently run by a team that deeply connects with the same values of quality and respect that Rogers and Williams once established while Also being inspired by the incredible legacy of the studio at the same time.  In its first year back, Lion Share has already hosted some of the most exciting artists of today and continues to embrace and take close care of the heart and soul that lives in these rooms.

History

  • Lion Share was originally designed as a quad room in the late 1970s by Carl Yanchar for the late great Kenny Rogers. Kenny and his team had a vision to make a premier studio room in Los Angeles to attract talent from all over the world. The room features one of a kind mechanical ceiling louvers, panoramic glass views of live and isolation rooms, and an iconic location at the corner of Beverly and Harper blvd near the Beverly Center in West Hollywood. The room has recently been fully renovated and upgraded with modern HEAR cue systems, state of the art surveillance feeds, hifi Augspurger style mains powered by all Bryston amps and tuned in-house capable of producing an unparalleled “wall of sound” and extended frequency with high spl playback. Back wall diffusion and bass trapping has also been added, and original wood paneling has been preserved. The remodel was carefully orchestrated under the guidance of Carl Yanchar, SP Sound Design, and Bill Jabr. This room is designed for creatives by creatives.
